GreaseMonkey
blog
So, probably a year after everyone else had tried it, I finally wrote my
first set of greasemonkey userscripts.
If you haven't heard of it... greasemonkey is a Firefox extension that allows
you to "monkey" around with a web page with your own javascript. There are apparently
a ton of scripts out there, allowing you to do things such as add more shortcut keys
to gmail, add yahoo links to google pages (and vice-versa), etc...
My scripts, though, are aimed at helping me out at work. We've got a set of we
pages that we use to query customer accounts but since they're used by multiple groups,
they're generic so that you need to fill out a form to initiate a query. In my first script,
all I did was set some of the elements to values for my group. That way I don't have to select
those values each time I hit the page to do a query, it's already been done for me by my userscript.
Pretty handy... I've got a couple of these scripts going already and it was a piece of cake. Check
it out sometime.

blog
Wow, just noticed that the Amazon service supports Bittorrent to access the files... interesting!
Amazon S3
blog
Well, add this new Amazon Web Service
to the growing list of stuff I want to do but probably won't have time to...
it's basically a web service built by Amazon that is the backend for online
storage. Amazon doesn't offer a customer-facing front-end... that's up to
us, the developers. What they offer is the storage and transfer of any
amount of data where you pay for what you use. Fifteen cents per GB of storage space
and twenty cents per GB of transfer. That's pretty cheap.
Anyhow, should be fun to play with if I ever get around to it...

Flickr Notes
blog
Just noticed that you can add notes to pictures on flickr... dunno how
long that's been around, but you can check it out
on this
picture. Nice stuff.
In other news... today Mystique and I are signing the paperwork on our
new home in Chandler... the sellers sign tomorrow so that's when we
really close, plus we don't really move in for another two weeks, but
we're getting there. We had the final walkthrough yesterday which
went fine, then we took the girls to a park that's just down the
street where we ate and let the girls do some swinging (the park has
two baby swings).
Apple's announcment yesterday was a bit less than I hoped... I guess I
kept reading too many blogs and conjectures by folks who have no clue
since by the time the announcement started I was expecting Apple to be
selling iRocketships that would fly us all to the moon to buy songs.
But alas... just a new intel mac mini and some silly boombox for your
ipod. Bleh.
