    Flickr
    blog

So I was checking out a site I saw on a blog somewhere, popurl and I saw that it had a flickr feed on it. Now, we use flickr for our photos of the girls, but I've never really gotten into just browsing their tags, sets, etc...

But then I saw this photo on popurl's feed and thought it was really nice. And then I saw this one. So I clicked through more of the guy's photostream and saw a bunch more cool pics.

So I subscribed to the feed of that stream... and now any new pics that person puts up will show up in my RSS reader. Pretty cool! I have no idea who this is, but I think his pictures are pretty cool.

I guess I've finally stumbled upon why people are in love with Flickr. It's more than just a storage place (like we use it). If you're into photography, either like me as a simple "looker", or as a big-time photographer-type, go browse some flickr streams. Some really cool stuff out there.

    All the Rage
    blog

I haven't been following the new version of enlightenment (e17) as much as I used to, so I'm late on this one... raster's latest app, Rage. It's an awesome looking interface to his Movie collection all written using the e17 libraries. He has the source + a movie up on his site... check it out.

    Not in my make.conf...
    blog

I emerged netcat today on my gentoo instance at work... when it prompted me to confirm the install I saw that one of the things I hadn't enabled in my make.conf that netcat could use was "GAPINGSECURITYHOLE". Hmm... tempting, but I think I'll leave that out of my make.conf. For now.

    Great Hackers
    blog

I like to read this article every now and then. I especially like the section titled 'The Final Frontier'. I wish all software companies would not just read it, but follow it. Lots of other good stuff in there, too.

    Additional Blog
    blog

I've been a user of bloglines for a while and have been pretty happy. I've tried a lot of other RSS readers and just haven't found anything as comfortable as bloglines.

A lot of times I find some interesting entries and I want to blog about them. Because I'm on a DIY blog (blosxom) on haslup.com, it's not always the easiest thing to copy and paste URLs into a new entry. Not hard, just not as convenient as...

My additional blog that is part of my bloglines account. Bloglines has a new 'clip/blog this' button on every entry that makes it really easy to create an entry with a link to what I'm reading. So I've started using this part of bloglines so I thought I'd throw it out there for my haslup.com fan(s).

Of course it has an RSS feed, and it's also nice because it shows my current list of feeds that I read.

    Our best friend Rupert
    blog

Today was a rough day for us... Mystique and I lost our best friend for the past six and a half years, our golden retriever Rupert. He was put to sleep this afternoon when our vet found that he had a large cancerous mass up against his lungs, as well as on his lymph nodes.

Anyone who is thinking "he's just a dog" can stop reading right now.

Rupert was our best buddy... he would go anywhere and everywhere with us, especially when we were in Bozeman. He was such a good dog... just a happy fella, content with laying around the house or going out on a walk with Mystique and the girls. He just wanted to be around you. We're going to miss him tremendously.

    It's Nice
    blog

Google Calendar is out... it's nice. What you'd expect from Google, really... clean interface, but with the bells and whistles you need. It includes RSS feeds for your public and private calendars, which is pretty nice. I wouldn't recommend adding your private feed to a site like Bloglines, though... I think once it's in there people can search on it and subscribe themselves. Google lets you change the URL, though, just in case that happens.

I've imported the Arizona Diamondbacks schedule and made it public if anyone is interested... that part was pretty easy. Just downloaded the CSV format from the Diamondbacks web site and Google did the import. Awesome. Now if only I could get it to update the event with the score... hmm...

At work I've been using python a lot for my current project. It's been a lot of fun... It's a nice blend of an OO, procedural, and functional language with a lot of support libraries and documentation out there to get things done quickly. I had a prototype up connecting to MySQL and making SOAP calls (to my test SOAP server I also wrote in Python) within 45 minutes, including the time to find and download the SOAP library. I like it.

Game-playing related news... I'm back into World of Warcraft now, playing with both my brother and my dad. Yep... my dad! It's great... the three of us can get online and do quests together, explore the land, etc... my brother is pretty much our guide since he's got the most experience out of the three of us. It's always handy to be able to call for a level 60 mage if we get into trouble (which we do often since we can be attacked at anytime on our server).

Over the weekend Mystique and I were at Costco and I saw they had a pile of xbox360's sitting there for $480. Full package, including HD cables and the 20gb hard drive that I hear is just about required for cool 360 gaming. I was tempted... so, so, so tempted. I think I even had the "ok" from Mystique. I just couldn't pull the trigger... I might in the summer or even the fall when things have settled down with the house. Or wait for the PS3 since it's gonna support linux right out of the box (I hear). That's what I need... yet another linux box running in the house.

    Better than a comic strip...
    blog

When you think of Scott Adams, you normally think of Dilbert... if you haven't seen it, though, Scott Adams has a pretty funny blog where he writes about more than just Dilbert. It's a great blog to read.

This entry is a must-read. This kind of story always gets to me... Kudos to Blake and Federer, and Adams for bringing it to my attention.

Cool site provided by the Washington Post to let you track how your elected officials in Congress are voting.

I never thought I'd see this...
    blog

But Apple is supporting running Windows XP on a Mac!!

I don't know what to say! I'm not as huge of an Apple guy as I was in my early computing days (my apples: Apple ][+, original Fat Mac, Mac IIci, Powerbook 5300ce, iMac), but I might become one. They've released this bootcamp which, among other things, contains the required drivers for most of the Intel Mac hardware. Other folks have booted into Windows XP already, but now they can finally get better graphics, sound, etc...

This means... my brother can finally play World of Warcraft on his new iMac with his Nostromo N52. Oh happy day! Looks like he took his days off a couple days too early... again :)

Anyhow, I'm pretty shocked. I didn't see any support in Bootcamp for linux, but that's ok... by the time the cool Apple hardware comes out in the Fall I'm sure linux users around the world will have taken care of things.

    I hate April 1st
    blog

Ugh... ok, my mom always taught me that hate is too strong of a word to use. Over the years I've tried avoiding it, but I just can't today... I truly hate April 1st and the internet. It's the time when bloggers and news sites all over the US think they're comedians and write fake stories, or try to get us to fall for fake news items. Haha.
    So funny.

Please... there's a reason why you're a blogger or a reporter and not a comedian or on a funny TV show. You can't do it. Stop trying to be over the top. Stick with what you know, that's why I subscribed to your feed. Not for this "haha I joined google," or "haha look at our pink web site." You're killing me.
